“I would be hard-pressed to take that vote.”

– Republican 18th Legislative District, Position 1 candidate Ann Rivers, on a “Yes” vote by current Rep. Jaime Herrera (R-La Center) on H.R. 1329, which allows day care workers to unionize. Herrera was one of six Republicans to vote with the Democratic majority in favor of the measure, which passed the House during the recently-completed legislative session, 62-35.

There's much more to HB 1329 than that.

Herrera not only voted for this SEIU legislation, she cosponsored this SEIU legislation.

I can certainly understand why Rivers would be "hard pressed" to vote for something that Herrera's seat mate, Rep. Ed Orcutt voted against and that our senator, Joe Zarelli (along with Don Benton), worked to and actually did kill.

What I don't understand is how Herrera, a self-styled "friend to organized labor" could co-sponsor and vote for a bill that she claims would have forced the owners of day care centers to pay union dues for their child care workers.

Nor can I understand how anyone can call themselves a conservative and still support Herrera for no other reason then that.
